kitty photo friday - or monday?

so since this is so late, you're getting a 2 for 1.

scully is our craigslist kitty. i had been looking for a while to ad another cat to our family, and for some reason, she caught my eye.

take a look at these awesome pictures that were a part of the posting for her on craigslist - and i dare you to tell me how you could have passed her up...

little did we know we the personality we were getting behind that adorable face, but we wouldn't have her any other way. burt finally got his orange kitty that sits in his lap and as of recently - sleeps at  his feet (for a guy who grew up with no pets - i find that to be a pretty special moment).

wednesday motivation - changing the world one clean floor at a time

i can't begin to tell you how crazy this week has been. from birthday parties to project deadlines to severe thunderstorms (and tornadoes) & power outages...i'm worn out! for the horribly late post - i apologize.

My very delayed motivation for this past week is the most recent purchase made in our house.  the bissell steam mop deluxe.
DISCLAIMER: i am not affiliated with bissell or its retailers in any way. i haven't been asked to or paid to review this product. i bought it with my hard earned money and have fallen in love with it - therefore am working to change the world, one clean floor at a time with it.

So I think we came to know this guy from a commercial...and i remember after seeing it for the first time burt had promised me that we'd get it. so our house now - we've had for almost a year - which i still can't believe. Our kitchen & dining room floor is all tile - an interesting mix of yellow/white/beige/tan/gray tile that is the most horrific thing to keep clean...mostly because of this guy:

If you didn't already know, this is Mulder. He's a 4 year old black lab, german shepherd mix. he's very, very messy. if he's not shedding, he's drooling. and he drools a LOT. he's the main reason why our floor is so horribly hard to keep clean.

until recently, "cleaning this floor" had been me on my hands and knees with either a paper towel, a clorox wipe or a sponge and bucket and scrubbing the hell out of it - never ever getting all of it clean.

finally - finances worked out to be able to splurge to bring this new gadget home from target - and OH MY...how my our lives have changed.

our floor has become 2-3 shades lighter than it was when we bought the house!

above, you're seeing the clean floor, the mop, and the two included mop heads (before & after). also included with the package was bissell's version of "eucalyptus spearmint scented, de-mineralized water" which makes the first few uses (where you're getting all of the dried on gunk off) amazing - mainly because you're not smelling the nasty stuff cooking off of your floor (in our case - Mulder drool).

the gist of this is: you un-box it, put it together, plug it in, wait for it to warm up and presto - go to work. there's a trigger you pull to create  more steam - which when held on a spot for 15 seconds sanitizes...i'm not kidding when i say this product has changed our lives. the micro fiber pads soak up everything that you put out of it, never leaving puddles to slosh around.

we've had it for two weeks now - used it 4 times and are still getting all sorts of dirt off of the floor. through our talking about it, we've led a co-worker of burt's to buy one as well as his parents (both of which have thanked us for gushing about it - stating that it as well, has changed their lives).

So yes, i am changing the world, one clean floor at a time - and i love it!

kitty photo friday

TGIF!
as you may or may not be aware, i am the proud owner of my very first domain! welcome to www.glitteronthedrums.com! now that i'm official and all, be on the lookout for some changes in the next few weeks. spring cleaning hits more than the house!

what an amazing week of weather we've had in nashville. i think today we actually got over 70. its cloudy, but i can open the windows and let the heater for the house take a much needed break. i'm pretty excited for this weekend - weather wise it's supposed to be great which means burt and i get to get a lot done around the yard.

i think one of the most random things that i walked away from my time as a zookeeper with is my love for pressure washers. that was the first thing to go on my "we need for the new house" list when we bought it last march but sad to say, i still don't have one. this weekend we're borrowing the in-laws and i'm tackling a L O N G list of dirty, moldy and paint chipping areas from the front walkway to the siding to the back patio and retaining wall. if i can get all of that done i'd love to plant some flowers in the beds that i tore bushes out of last weekend and finally add some color to look out at.

i'm excited, therefore i'm rambling. this is supposed to be a kitty photo friday post, yes? well then on to today's picture: baby nohea. this is the tiny face that i fell in love with in 2004 - this was taken pretty shortly after i brought her home. it's amazing how little she was!

and look at her taking a swipe at me back then. i'm so glad her attitude stuck around. she's a special girl.
with that, i'm off to my weekend - starting with david bazan & jimmy eat world at the cannery ballroom tonight! have a great weekend everyone!

the deepest of condolences to my boss and her husband who had to say goodbye to their 9 year old kitty, Bonnie, whom finally succumbed to cancer this week. grief is the price we pay for love, and saying goodbye to an animal you love is one the hardest things to do. if you're interested in a zookeeper's take on goodbye, read here

wednesday motivation - a new start

as you can see, "i wanna get lost in your eyes & vanish inside your kiss" is now "glitter on the drums."
i've been using the previous title for years and i feel that the new one fits me and my life better - and will help give my blog the "right feel."

welcome!

i figured i stay on my track record of posting this a day late - why break something that's working?
in the theme of the new start, i'm excited by glitter this week!
not the kind that you used in kindergarden, this kind. The kind that catches the sun and the wind and spreads a little bit of magic.

kitty photo friday

sweet scully.

she has her nightmare-ish moments, but every day
when i get home from work - she does this. it makes my heart melt.

wednesday motivation - later edition

ah - spring is almost in the air. enough for my daffodils to think its time to start reaching for the sky - even if they are currently covered in snow.

in light of the premature warm up that Nashville is about to receive this week, my motivation today is two of my favorite kinds of flowers - tulips and daffodils. they're so simple, bright and colorful - they make me excited for the sun.

lucky for me (*wink*wink*) - valentine's day is coming up.

kitty photo friday

yay - friday is here! i've been going through my pictures a bunch this week and while i have a lot of fun exotic kitty pictures from when i worked as a zookeeper, i figured i'd let you meet my babies first.
im a huge animal lover, so who knows...maybe kitty photo friday morphs into an animal photo friday at some point down the road. but as for today, i give you my baby, Nohea.

this girl has been with me for almost 7 years now and i love her to pieces. her new interest is ice cream - as pictured above...she knows the sound of me preparing to get a bowl and runs to join me on the couch. i don't think she's ever completely forgiven me for getting the dog or another cat a few years ago, but she has her ways of showing her love - even if burt thinks she's planning to kill us in our sleep.

wednesday motivation - late edition

i know, i know...it's not wednesday anymore (thank goodness we're over that hump).

regardless -  my motivation/inspiration this week is my one and only... this guy:

he may or may not kill me for posting theses pictures, but I have multiple like this. he always finds a way to make me laugh and lift my spirits. out of the 7 billion people on this earth, he's the one here for me and i'm so grateful that i get to be the lucky one for him.
